大きな違いは「切る対象の太さと硬さ」です。剪定（せんてい）鋏：庭木の太い枝（15mm程度まで）を軽い力で切るための道具。片方の刃が受け皿になる構造で、パワーがあります。花鋏（はなばさみ）：草花の茎を潰さず、スパッと切るための道具。水の吸い上げを良くするため、刃が薄く切れ味を重視しています。太い枝は剪定鋏、お花は花鋏と使い分けるのが一般的です。

普通の鋏と花鋏の違いは「花の寿命（水揚げ）」と「一生モノの品質」です。普通の鋏：刃が厚く、茎を押し潰して切るため、水の通り道（道管）が壊れて花が早く枯れてしまいます。外山刃物の花鋏：職人が一丁ずつ鍛えた鋭い刃が、細胞を壊さずスパッと切るため、花が水をぐんぐん吸い上げ長持ちします。また、外山刃物は「刃研ぎ無料券」が付くなど、メンテナンスして一生使い続けられる点も大きな魅力です。

使用後はヤニや汚れを落とし、水分を完全に拭き取るのが基本です。刃物に使用される素材は錆に弱いため、仕上げに刃物専用油を薄く塗って保護しましょう。切れ味が鈍ったら、無理に使わず砥石で軽く研ぐのが長持ちさせるコツです。こまめな清掃と油膜保護で、末永くともにする道具として輝き続けます。

The Secret to the Perfect Cut

Why do Toyama Hamono shears feel so different? The secret is in our unique blade edge.

While most shears use a "double-bevel edge" with a small step near the tip, we take a more difficult path. We meticulously sharpen our blades into a single, seamless edge with no interruptions.

By removing that tiny bump, we reduce friction to the absolute limit. Instead of forcing a cut, the blade glides through stems and branches with almost no effort—as if the plant itself is drawing the shears in.

This dedication to the "perfect cut" is why Japanese craftsmanship continues to amaze the world.
