創 業
初代 外山龍松 1861年～ 江戸・明治時代
1861年、新潟県三条市「十兵衛小路」（現一ノ木戸付近）で創業した龍松は、武士の血筋を生かし、地元の依頼を受け木鋏（きばさみ）の製造を開始。当初は軍艦の鋲を大鎚と小鎚で鍛造していました。鋏造りに専念し後に東京へ出向き剪定鋏の製造を学び技術を習得しました。
Foundation - The Seeds of Craftsmanship
First Generation - Toyama Ryumatsu - 1861 onwards
Founded in 1861 in Sanjo, Niigata, Toyama Ryumatsu used his samurai heritage to craft wooden-handled hedge shears (Ki-basami) at local request. He initially forged them from salvaged warship rivets and later refined his skills by studying pruning shear manufacturing in Tokyo.

二代目 外山富次郎 1880年～ 明治・大正時代
二代目・外山富次郎は、木鋏の製造から金切鋏へと生産品目を拡大しました。この時代には焼き入れ（熱処理）や鍛鋼が進み、製品の耐久精度の進化が始まりました。
Innovation & Diversification
Second Generation - Toyama Tomijiro - 1880 onwards
The second generation, Toyama Tomijiro, expanded the product line to include metal-cutting shears. This era saw advanced tempering and steel-forging, enhancing tool durability and lifespan.

三代目 外山秀吉 1906年頃～ 大正・昭和時代
三代目・外山秀吉が「外山刃物製作所」を設立し、製造の専門性技術を高め剪定鋏の製造がはじまる。第二次世界大戦中、国策として「三條鋏打刃物工業小組合」が設立され、軍需産業として有刺鉄線を切断する金切鋏を造る。この時三代目秀吉が宗家として組合のまとめ役を担った。

Third Generation - Toyama Hidekichi - 1906 onwards
Toyama Hideyoshi founded "Toyama Hamono Seisakusho," refining sharpening and balance techniques. Gaining recognition for high-end shears, he led Sanjo’s shear association during WWII and later pioneered full-scale drop-forged pruning shear production.

四代目 外山秀久 - 製 造 外山秀男 - 販 売
1960年頃～ 昭和・平成時代
20世紀半ば、三代目秀吉が 製造（外山刃物-秀久）と販売（若狭屋-秀男）を分離した。四代目は動力プレスや自動研磨で生産を近代化し、剪定・盆栽・生花鋏にも進出した。また若狭屋の販売力が加わることで国内外への情報の訴求と拡大によりますますの製造の拡大化が進み始めた。
Modernization, Expansion & Specialization
Fourth Generation - Toyama Hidehisa & Toyama Hideo - mid-20th Century onwards)
In the mid-20th century, the fourth generation modernized production with power presses and automatic grinding, expanding into pruning, bonsai, and ikebana shears. Manufacturing (Toyama Hamono - Hidehisa) and sales (Wakasaya Co., Ltd. - Hideo) were separated, while mechanization like NC grinding and laser marking enhanced tradition.

五代目 外山秀信 2000年頃～ 平成・令和時代
五代目・外山秀信は2020年2月、製造と販売を株式会社外山刃物に統合し効率化を図った。伝統と革新を融合させ、グローバル展開、持続可能性、倫理的な調達、環境に配慮した生産を重視することでその伝統を守り今日に至る。
Fifth Generation - Toyama Hidenobu - Present Day
In February 2020, Hidenobu Toyama unified manufacturing and sales under Toyama Hamono Co., Ltd. for greater efficiency. The company upholds its legacy by blending tradition with innovation, emphasizing global expansion, sustainability, ethical sourcing, and eco-conscious production.
